The Nigerian Biological Safety Association as part of her objectives of promoting biological Safety practices under ONE HEALTH APPROACH inaugurated the NiBSA Biosafety Club in the University of Abuja on the 9th of May 2026.
The Chief Host who also conducted the inauguration was the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja in the person of Prof.Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi. The President Dr Stella Udo was the host and other key members of the association present were Prof Abiodun Denloye who is the Immediate Past President, Dr Tubi Abiola who is the Chair Board of Trustee. Members of the Executive in Abuja Dr Kingsley Ochei and Dr Agha Ukpai Agha were also present including the North Central Coordinator Mrs Ojo Abiola and other members. A total of 28 students from 6 departments of the University were inducted as pioneer members in UniAbuja Biosafety Club.
This was a landmark event as the first Nation wide. Other Zones are expected to follow suit as this is a critical step in not only Biosafety advocacy but in getting the youths trained and involved in developing the culture of Biosafety and Biosecurity.
We extends warm congratulations to one of its distinguished members, Professor Igwe Chibueze, on the occasion of his Professorial Inaugural Lecture at Kaduna State University (KASU). The lecture, which marked KASU’s 15th Professorial Inaugural Lecture, stands as a notable academic milestone and a moment of pride for the biomedical science community in Nigeria.Delivered at a time when the world is confronted with complex and evolving health challenges, the lecture provided insightful perspectives on critical global health issues, reinforcing the indispensable role of biomedical science in advancing healthcare delivery, research, and policy formulation. It also reflected the growing relevance of interdisciplinary scholarship in addressing both local and global health concerns.NiBSA celebrates Professor Igwe Chibueze’s remarkable academic achievements and his sustained contributions to biomedical science, research, and mentorship. His successful inauguration not only affirms his personal scholarly excellence but also elevates the profile of the Association and inspires upcoming biomedical scientists across the country.
The Chairman of the Conference, Dr. Donald Ofili, delivered the opening address at the NiBSA 2025 Conference, formally ushering in the proceedings and setting the intellectual tone for the event. In his remarks, he welcomed distinguished guests, speakers, and participants, while emphasising the significance of the conference theme in addressing current and emerging challenges within the sector.Dr. Ofili highlighted the objectives of the conference, underscoring the need for collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based dialogue among stakeholders. He commended the organisers and partners for their dedication and commitment to excellence, and encouraged participants to engage actively in the sessions, discussions, and knowledge-sharing opportunities throughout the conference. His address provided a strong foundation for the deliberations that followed and reaffirmed the conference’s commitment to impactful outcomes.
Dr. Chukwu O. Chukwu, Provost of the Veterinary Orthopaedic and Medical (VOM) institution, delivered a goodwill message at the NiBSA 2025 Conference, where he highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing contemporary national and global challenges.In his remarks, Dr. Chukwu commended the organisers for convening a timely and impactful conference that brings together experts from diverse fields to share knowledge, experiences, and innovative solutions. He emphasised the role of academic and professional institutions in driving research, policy development, and capacity building, particularly in areas that intersect security, technology, and public welfare. His message resonated strongly with participants, reinforcing the value of partnership and shared commitment to sustainable development and national resilience.
NiBSA seeks to influence and support emerging legislations and standards in the areas of biosafety, biosecurity, and biotechnology by partnering with leading organizations.
